Blue Danube Juniper

Overview & Description

The Blue Danube Juniper (Juniperus sabina Blue Danube) is a low-growing, spreading evergreen shrub prized for its attractive, soft blue-green, scale-like foliage that develops subtle purple-bronze tones in winter. It forms a dense, semi-upright mound with arching branches, creating excellent textural interest. Its feathery branchlets are soft to the touch, and the plant is generally pest and disease resistant.

Growth & Size

This variety exhibits a dense, spreading to semi-upright growth habi . It is a moderate-growing shrub, typically reaching a mature size of about 2 to 3 feet in height with a spread of 4 to 6 feet. Its growth is more restrained than some sprawling junipers, providing reliable coverage without being overly aggressive.

Additional Notes

It does not have showy flowers. Hardy to Zone 3, it is drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and adaptable to poor, dry, and alkaline soils. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, tolerating urban conditions and coastal exposure. An outstanding choice for foundation plantings, mass plantings, low hedges, borders, or sunny slopes where a tough, ornamental evergreen with year-round colour and manageable spread is desired.
